How can i go to central america or asia without visa? simply i enter in the plain and go?
i am russian and i want to go to asia for exemple
Corky's answer:
Most Asian countries require a visa for entrance.

Entering a country without the proper paperwork is illegal and can result in being arrested, jailed or in some countries simply shot as a suspected smuggler.

When you let Yahoo Answers users pick the best answer...

You get crap

Here was the question:

Did you find Obama's Education Speech offensive?
If you did what about the speech offended you?

If you didn't hear or see or read it, what about the speech offended you?

Here was the "Best Answer"

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters
no, but the lesson plan was definitely offensive.

Apparently Glenn Beck is a Yahoo Answers user.

Here's a far better answer that was passed over:

I only read it, but after reading it I felt encouraged. I'm in college, fighting a serious chronic illness, neither of my parents went to college (in fact my father is a piece of **** deadbeat alcoholic asshole), my brother dropped out of highschool at 16, and I'm not doing that well financially... But I know that with strength and persistence I can be successful. And I plan on it.

Obama's speech just made me feel even more that I'm doing the right thing. I just hope that it inspires other kids to do the same.

Anyone saying that its against Obama's constitutional rights is an idiot. Not only does freedom of speech include the president's freedom of speech, but if education wasn't backed by the government as it was when the constitution was first written, the only people going would be the wealthy. Everyone needs an education, and needs to be proactive in getting one, is all Obama was trying to say.

Corky is at it again!

What was the reason for Stacy Ferguson's dissapearance on Kids Incorporated?
On wikipedia, it says "Actors left the series when they "aged out" of their roles as kids. The disappearances of some long-running actors, such as Martika, Renee Sands, Stacy Ferguson, and Rahsaan Patterson, were written into the script." What was the reason for stacy's dissapearance? Thanks!

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters
Her character went to college.

For ONCE Corky makes a some sense. Never mind the fact that the question is wrong about the provisions of the bill...

What can we do to stop the health care bill?
Lets march on Washington

Additional Details
Just wait until all you healthy unemployed people are fined for not paying for the goverment plan $300/mo.

a better way: limit the amounts on lawsuits- get the lawyers out of it they are the reson for the high costs

I'm afraid the only part of the plan that will survive is the part that forces all legal citizens to have insurance(like car insurance) whether you want it or not. After all us poor and middle class are the only ones not represented in Washington.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker
Write your congresspeople and demand they READ the bill.

Can you believe people TRULY believe this proves obama = antichrist? Look for a 'pentagram' on his head.?

Oh God I hope he's the antichrist!

The whole POINT of supporting Israel was to bring about the conditions of the End Times. We've been working SO HARD to make things ready for Jesus to return and for all the Christians to be raptured. It would be GREAT if it finally happens!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker
It means he is "down" with class 1 drugs, like crack and amphetamines.

It's a new word that is being used in gangs which means, "I like to smoke meth and rob people"

I would get him some serious help as soon as possible.

This would explain a lot...

UPDATE: September 8-2009: The following question has been deleted.

The question is good, but some of the answers are rather nutty:

Why do birthers continue asking the question "Why hasn't Obama produced his birth certificate"? by "Is Rush a Donkey ('s a$s)?"

Don't they know they're making the entire GOP look like fools ?
Do you think they really believe their own nonsense?

Answer by Corky P that actually makes a little sense:
The Birther movement is actually lead by deep cover liberals who are out to make Republicans look like fools. It's all a ploy to siphon off the moderates in the Republican party.

Some of the dumber replies:

Peace through blinding force

Because he STILL hasn't.
Outside of Obama's campaign, exactly ONE person has EVER claimed to have seen it and she ALSO claimed earlier that it didn't exist.

We would like for just ONE person not on Obama's payroll to at least CLAIM they've seen ANY evidence whatsoever. So far, no one has.

Mick Jaguar

You're trying the Lib's talking points for the day and are trying to link a few with the many. It won't work. He never did produce his birth certificate anyway, so the problem rests with him, yet few care as do I. Now that birth certificates aren't important, Arnold can run for president. That would be coooool.

Here we have Yuna and some Holocaust Denial:

If Jews really were gassed to death in World War II, they should have no problem allowing us to do autopsies on the bodies. But they won't let us...

People who won't show what you need have something to hide.

Wendy

you acorn people kill me....just tell us why he won't show ANY of his records?...what is he hiding?

Corky appears to be a grumpy old man to boot

Question:
Its 160 hard drive in a computer too little?

Answer:
When I was in College, an 80 MB hard drive was considered HUGE, and you could expect to pay a dollar a megabyte for the privilege of such a roomy drive, and that's if you were getting a hard drive for a desktop. Laptop hard drives were, like now, far more expensive.

What are you DOING that you'd need 160 GB? Is your media library really that massive? Do you know how many MP3s you can store in that space at a decent (96 or so) bit rate???

Foose wheels and a flat out lie

Account 004 has gotten another "Best Answer" for a flat out lie.
Q: Does anyone know which rims or what brand are on the new Knight Rider Mustang?

Being a fan of the show "Overhauling" I answered:
A: They aren't rims, they're Foose Wheels, designed by Chip Foose. He was a BIG Knight Rider fan when the show was on the air. He's even made a few references to KITT on episodes of "Overhaulin'"

If Chip ever referenced Knight Rider on Overhaulin it was on an episode I missed. Based on the ugly Ricer look of the new KITT I'd be shocked if anything as classy as Foose wheels found their was onto the car. Despite the total lack of evidence and the completely fabricated nature of the answer, it was vote a "Best Answer."

If the answer is accurate, it's by accident. I should know, I wrote the answer.

A new insight into WHY dumb answers keep getting chosen

For a while now I'd been wondering why people tend to vote for inane, poorly thought out and generally dumb replies when choosing the "Best Answer." The following question and associated "Best Answer" are very telling:
Question:
Do most people on yahoo answers think if they give a LONG answer they will automatically recieve(sic) "best answer"
just wondering....sometimes it seems like peeps ramble and ramble and ramble... :)

does anyone else notice this?

Additional Details

some of you dont(sic) need to "defend" yourselfs(sic) i'm(sic) just asking a general opinion...not saying whether it's right or wrong!

Best Answer, Chosen by Asker:
no, short answers are usually the best for most questions because most questions are just basic opinions, occasionally there will be a question which will need lots of detail but they are quite rare.

I hate it when people just write and write for no apparant(sic) reason, they could get their point across within a line but they just write and write and write and write and write and write and you wonder if they will ever stop.

Remember kids, a well thought out, well researched answer will be ignored if it's "too long." This is the Internet age after all. If reading something takes longer than listening to a TV News sound byte, then of COURSE you MUST be a long winded jerk who just likes to hear themselves talk!

In other words: Yahoo Answers is, as far as the asker and answerer above are concerned, an exclusive club for people with very, very short attention spans.

These guys are kidding, right?

Sometimes you see an exchange that just HAS to be a joke. Yes, Yahoo Answers has content that can be explained by mind numbing levels of stupidity, but other questions and their associated replies can only be explained as a gag or by the heavy use of drugs, possibly both.

This question and its replies fit that criteria. This has GOT to be someone joking around:

Question:

Im writing a book,,,,where can i buy some NEW words???????
i need NEW WORDS.no old words.

Best Answer:

It is posseble (sic) by experience.

The asker's comment on the "Best Answer:" thanks i made a word up >>> "plippyssponge"

The only other answer posted:

Internet is the best source to get new words.Go ahead. All the best.

The question itself was asked at around 7:30 Am EST and the "Best Answer" was chosen within a few minutes. This leads me to suspect the whole thing was done by a group of friends or one person with three logins.

KITT's Rims

Does anyone know which rims or what brand are on the new Knight Rider Mustang?

I decided to just make stuff up for this one.

They aren't rims, they're Foose Wheels, designed by Chip Foose. He was a BIG Knight Rider fan when the show was on the air. He's even made a few references to KITT on episodes of "Overhaulin'"

Bad Advice on DVD Region Encoding

A lot of people don't know this, but DVDs sold in different parts of the planet are "Region Encoded" so they'll only play back on players sold for that region. For example, a DVD bought in America will NOT play in a DVD Player sold in Europe.

A DVD that can be played in ANY DVD player is known as a "Region 0", "Multi Region" or "Region Free" DVD. Players that can play a DVD from any country are also known as "Region Free" or "Region 0."

It doesn't matter if the DVD you bought in America plays on your Panasonic 345 in the USA, it won't play on your cousin's European Panasonic 345 because it has a different region encoding. Video games are frequently region encoded as well, which is why Wii and Playstation owners in the USA have to hack their game consoles to play games that are only available in Japan. You need a "region 1" game to play it in a US game console.

Some DVD players can be hacked, either with hardware or software, to make them Region 0 players. For example, I have a boot DVD for my Playstaion 2 that will let me select which region it will be until I reboot it. This way I can, for example play Region 2 DVDs.

This brings me to a Yahoo Question asked by James R:
Is windows Media Player Multi Regional?
I was wondering if Windows Media player can play DVD's from different regions. As im wanting to buy some Region 1 DVD's but the 2 DVD players we have in the house are not multi regional.
This is a fair question. Most people never encounter problems with region encoding as most people jut buy DVDs at their local Wal-Mart or Target. Such stores pretty much always carry only DVDS and games encoded for the region they're in.

Mchiang's "Best Answer" chosen by the asker, however, is a pile of uniformed nonsense, perhaps deliberate misinformation.
yes. i can play dvd from europe, us, and asia. it depends on the codec installed in your computer.

if you cant play your dvd in your media player, all you need to do is to find the appropriate codec for that region
This answer is, of course total nonsense. Windows Media player respects the region of the hardware DVD player that's installed. If the DVD drive in your PC is Region 1, then Windows will only play Region 1 DVDs.

James R has a few options. First, he can do some research on how to make his existing DVD players "Multi Region" or "Region Free." Many DVD players have an easter egg built into them where a key combination entered on the remote control will unlock them, permenantely or temporarily. Some DVD players, such as those in computers, will let you change their region up to four times before permenantly locking to whatever region was selected last. He could buy a second DVD Drive, set it to the desired region and just remember to insert the DVD into the correct drive to play it.

James R could also see if there's a firmware update for his computer's DVD Drive or even his stand alone players that will make them region free. This is a bit riskier as the hacked firmwares could "brick" the player.

Finally, he could just buy a Region Free DVD player. He'll need to buy one online and probably order form Japan or Germany, but models that can play any region DVD, MPEG , AVI and other formats can be had very inexpensively.

Mchiang's nonsense about installing a Codec equates region encoding with different file formats, a misinformed and costly mistake. There's no magical Codec that will let a Region 2 player play a Region 1 DVD. A Codec is merely a set of information about a particular file format. iT'S not a firmware upgrade or hack program to modify a DVD player's region encoding. Mchiang either doesn't know what he's talking about, or he doesn't know what words to use to describe the issue.

Another Round of Dull Answers

Today I continue posting more dull, lifeless answers in an attempt to get a feeling for what Yahoo Answers is looking for.

Here's a typically vapid, pointless "question" someone posted.

This is Bill Cosby. Kids, what do you best know me from? Is it the film Ghost Dad?
For example, William Shatner is best known for a film he did in Esperanto. I also heard a rumor he did this tv series that took place in space.

What would you say you best know me from?
Of course someone else already said "The Cosby Show" and even though I know the "Safe" answer is to repeat the obvious I decided to go for something that's at least a LITTLE different. I replied with:
"Bill Cosby: Himself" and "Leonard Part 6"
I now, I know, by Yahoo Answers standards it's an edgy response but sometimes you just have to live dangerously, you know?

Some of my other recent answers:
Q: Has Anyone Actually Received Any Money By Forwarding Chain Letters To Friends?
A: I think they're all scams. I don't know anyone who ever got any money but I know a lot of people who forwarded the e-mails.

I figure the above answer is safe, as there are a LOT of posts debunking things like the Yahoo Lottery scam that's been floating round for ages.

Q: how can i ask my mom for the pill without her thinking i want to have sex?
im 13 and i'd like to get the pill, just in case! and since most of my friends are boys my mom already suspects i do things with them, yes its true most of them are older but my mom thinks i do more than i actually do...how can i ask her inoccently without her thinking i want to have sex or i'm a **** who wants the pill so i can go round sleeping with everyone if i can get the pill?
A: I don't think any doctors will prescribe it to you that young unless there's some sort of medical problem. Ask your doctor for some advice. She'll probably tell you you're too young anyway.

I'm playing a few cards here. First, I'm being vaguely conservative by stating a 13 year old is "too young" for the pill. Never mind the fact that most 13 year olds are already menstruating and there's a sizable percentage that is already sexually active at that age. I also make an appeal to seeking a doctor's advice without speculating about any actual medical issues beyond the vague phrase "unless there's some sort of medical problem." Finally I stick to what appears to be a Yahoo Answers golden rule, I'm not actually providing any useful information.

I'll leave things sit for now and see what happens.

Saturday, October 6, 2007

You've got to be kidding me.

Here's an example of the kinds of absurd things you find on Yahoo Answers:

What do you think the Mana which moses ate in the desert for 40 years and kept in the Ark of the Covenant was?

was this some mystical substance which we no longer have any access to? or was it something which we still have around us today? ive heard many theories ranging from algee which grew "sponteniously" on cave walls, to gold which had been alchemically turned to nonreactive powder and made into bread. Ive heard people say it might be the same Ambrosia which the greeks refered too, and ive heard people claim its just pure goodness manifested by God to maintain his chosen people. im really just undecided at this point, what do you think?

Let's take a good look at this "question." This person is rambling about all sorts of absurd "explanations" for what the Bible describes as a Miracle, and those "Explanations" include Gold magically transmuted by Alchemy. The comical "explanations" are harder to swallow than simply saying "It was a miracle."

If this question isn't a joke, then the woman asking it is a first class, top notch loony. My guess is for it being a gag question, based on what she chose as the "Best Answer."

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Bug poop. To this day, there are insects in the desert that exude a syrupy glop that, in a pinch, might be regarded as edible.

The idea that this is a poorly conceived gag question is further enforced by the Asker's comments on WHY she chose it as the "Best Answer."

Thanks for giving the only constructive answer! shame on you others, im not looking for snapply opinions.

That's right folks, this chick asked for a mystical explanation for a miracle, and chose the answer of "Bug Poop" as the best.

Welcome to Yahoo Answers.
